MBFDC Attend County Football Festival Vs Plymouth Argyle Centre of Excellence, PAFC Academy, Camborne & Penryn Development Centre’s
On Wednesday 31st May 2017, the Long Term Player Development (LTPD) prorgamme that is currently delivered across the county by Cornwall FA and Plymouth Argyle outlets, were invited to take part in the annual county festival.
The Mounts Bay squads of course were involved and the MBFDC army travelled by coach and the full centre attended with teams from U8-U11s. The festival was a fantastic opportunity for all players to express themselves and showcase their capabilities against the best players from across Cornwall. The Cornwall Centre of Excellence (C of E) and Plymouth Argyle Academy also entered teams which was great for the development centre players to further test themselves.
The development clubs involved were as follows
- Mounts Bay LTPD Centre
- Penryn LTPD Centre
- Camborne LTPD Centre
- Plymouth Argyle Cornwall Centre of Excellence
- PAFC Academy
The aim of the LTPD programme through improved partnership between Cornwall FA and Plymouth Argyle is to ensure our very best young players receive enhanced coaching provision, on the best facilities and compete with and against the very best players.
Kevin Lawrence, Football Centre Manager (MBFDC) has been very impressed and proud of the development of the young players locally and reports…
‘There have been numerous players shining at the individual centres which have progressed further within the Player Development Pathway. Many players since MBFDC begun, have progressed into the Plymouth Argyle C of E & Academy football. The ultimate aim for these players is to progress as far as they can. Alternatively, players involved within the LTPD centres are also directly fed into the system and trials for District and County Schools Representation from U13-U18 years.”
Lawrence, further sates that…
‘There is some outstanding work produced locally and we are now breeding young talent. Our West Cornwall SFA U13s district representative squad in the 2012/2013 season were crowned National Champions, beating Liverpool SFA 2-0 in the final at Hereford FC. Many players involved in that squad have developed through the development centres. As a result, many have been linked with professional clubs and one player, Theo Simpson has just signed a professional contract with Exeter City FC. Theo started at MBFDC so its great to see his development.”
